Skills Development Fund Limited

Skills Development Fund Limited has been established as a pilot project in 1998 on the recommendation of Presi- dential Task Force on Technical Education and Vocational Training. Initially, International Labour Organization (ILO) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) sponsored towards establishing SDFL. The SDFL was registered under the Reg. number N (PBS) 832 as a Limited Liability Company on 20th of August 1999, under the Company Ordinance No. 17 of 1982. In September, 1999, the cabinet of Ministers approved a sum of Rs. 100 million to purchase shares of SDFL, which it invested securely. It was expected that SDFL could cover its recurrent expenditure by the means of inter- est income from its investments and its operational income. SDFL was established as a self-funded institute and, it was initially contributed with funds from the Employer’s Federation of Sri Lanka and another private investor in addition to the Rs. 100 million share of the state. SDFL, which functions under the supervision of the Ministry of Skills Development and Vocational Training, was reregistered as a Limited Liability Company under the Company Ordinance No. 07 of 2007.
